  1. The Alabama Labor Department has made it very clear & obvious to its citizens that they are making all efforts to hinder their citizens from ever claiming their unemployment benefits. Tomorrow will mark 5 months since I have filed for Unemployment & I have yet to see any progress whatsoever on my claim. However, after giving them my bank information they have managed to deduct money from my account due to back taxes I owed. So, somebody is looking at my information. I have recently decided to move to another State in search of employment within my specific field & also to get away from this garbage state. As long as those are in office of Governor & head of Labor Department, I plan to never again live in the State of Alabama even though I have spent the majority of my life living there. Other states are light years ahead of the curve, post COVID pandemic, even Mississippi! Come on Alabama! Best of luck to you all.

  2. I filed for unemployment in June and still have not received a check. Says I have pending issues. I was told that in 2009 as well and haven’t been able to draw since. Still shows last payment being in 2009. Even during the pandemic, I received nothing. I’ve tried calling and sending a message online, but nothing. Can anybody help me?

    • Hi, Shirley – since your question is related to your specific situation, your best option is to keep trying to get through to someone with the Alabama unemployment office. You should be able to call 800-361-4524 after 5 p.m. Sunday through Thursday to schedule a callback for the next day. Keep in mind that many unemployment offices are simply inundated with calls right now, and it might take a while to get through.

  3. This is ridiculous. Every single phone number is busy or disconnected/not working. Called from landline, cell, and two different states 2,000 miles apart.

      • Hi, Stephen – you don’t have to pick up your prepaid benefits card – it will be mailed to you. Cards are produced and mailed from an out-of-state service provider location. Your new card packet
will arrive via U.S. Postal Mail in a standard white envelope reflecting the following return address:
PLEASE NOTICE THIS OUT OF STATE ADDRESS AND DO NOT DISCARD
        ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR
        PO BOX 806514
        CHICAGO, IL. 60680-4126

        • My husband filed for unemployment and it’s been 6 months and we haven’t received a payment or anything. Every time he makes a call to speak to someone it’s the same answer we’re just waiting on someone to review it. We are close to foreclosure on our home! I’m ready to get a lawyer!

  4. same here I have tried to call the compensation number to schedule appointment to find out pending issues on my account and it always tells me your call cannot be put through or all the appointment times have been filled for the day I’ve tried to call other numbers relating to unemployment and I keep getting told that they couldn’t help me or they send me to a place that has nothing to do with it so I’m in the same situation not to mention my hands broke and I have two pins in it and I’m 2 months behind on all my bills and I’m stuffed about to get shut off so someone’s going to have to do something

    • You gotta call at 5 pm on the dot. By 5:05 pm, all call spots are given out. I’m in same boat. Will be evicted with my 3 year old grandson this week or next at latest. Filed in Dec 2022.

  5. I applied for benefits 16 weeks ago, and although I was monetary approved. My tracker says, their is issues stopping payment on your claim. My employer failed to reply to the BEN 241 letter.
It has been well past the 21 day protocol used by ADOL.
1…Why is it taking more than the 21day limit for making a determination on my claim?.
2….Does the Montgomery office have access to the data base to take care of this issue, providing that I make an appointment for in person help?
Thank you for any answers you can provide to me.

    • Anita,

I can understand your situation. There will be a delay considering the number of applications that are being processed. Please continue chasing the office/check your status online at regular intervals until payments normalize.

  6. Sam I am in the same position as Judy. I have been trying for months to find out what the Pending Issue is on my account. I cannot get any answer online at the Alabama unemployment link I have written a request for help there. I call every day and get the same message Please call back later . I have no idea what to try next. I would love to know how to speak to a Claims representative.

    • Same here I start calling at 5 get a busy signal till 5:05 then magically the phone line opens up and says all appointments are taken. Its real hard for me to believe that its been 6 months and still that many people have issues that u can’t even get through. What do they take 1 appointment a day this is bs and I think we should be able to file some sort of suit we have rights its our money

    • I been calling everyday getting no answer call volume high call back later all appointments are taking my bills are due don’t make no sense

    • I have been calling for ten months now and sill no money. I feel like I have been surrounded by people getting paid that Didn’t have a job yet I have worked since i was 15 . Now 45) and because I’m not the lucky caller to revive an appointment, my family goes without, I have email. Faxed and called and nothing. Please if you find a way, let me know

      • I am not in your situation, but I was able to get a call back from a representative by calling AFTER 5:30 PM at 800-361-4524. They call back on the NEXT business day from when you leave your message. I called on a Thursday and someone called me back on the following Friday, the next day.

      • Kimberly, it’s absolutely ridiculous to have to wait this long. My daughter was getting paid (7) weeks then all of a sudden it stopped. She finally was one of the “lucky” callers and they requested she send in her BC, SS, 2 forms paper that showed her mailing address and a picture of her driver’s license as she was holding it up, all to make sure it was her. IT’S HER! That was 4 weeks ago and still no money! She has been able to call and ask why it’s taking this long only to hear it just does….. She is without any money and I can no longer help her as I have my own bills…….

      • Kimberly,

I can understand your situation. Please consider the option of visiting an office in the vicinity if safe and feasible.

        • Jeff, I didn’t know, in person, was an option??? claim in since January. Initially said paid, (but wrong account). Logged back in and then all fields cleared as if it wasn’t there. However I took screenshots of it. Confused and needing money.

    • Lisa,

Unfortunately, there are tens and thousands in the same situation. All I can say is keep trying and consider the option of visiting an office in the vicinity.

        • Nataki,

Please check for appointment availability and opening on the Unemployment Office’s official website.

      • If you are a pua claimant and check is pending it could be you need to up load your drivers license and w2s or 1099 from the last time you worked, mother’s maiden name, separation from state self employment, more or less stating when you last worked for them and if you were laid off or lost your job because coronavirus and when your last date of work was.a lot of pua had exhausted their yearly claim, which requires you to refile your continued claim, the 3 rd part of filing new or existing claim is where you can upload the info you need.

  7. I have been callin and emailing for over a month and still can’t get a call back to solve the issue on my claim. I’ve been calling everyday to get help and understand why it’s saying this and still no answer from any of the phone numbers online. I tried calling today and now none of the numbers online work! This is crazy how do you get ahold of someone!?

    • Ashton,

There will be a delay considering the number of applications that are being processed. Please continue chasing the office/check your status online at regular intervals until payments normalize.

  11. I have been receiving unemployment since March then this week it says no benefit paid reason because if overpayment./fruad I looked and it showed I have an outstanding interest balance of 101$ I don’t know how that can be but I did send payment to be processed for tomorrow. Will my benefits start back once this is paid or do I have to file a new claim. I’m still currently unemployed. It said I will receive something in the mail in regards to this.. but I still haven’t and as of today and I did my weekly claim Sunday. Please help. Thank you.

    • Bran,

Please try to get in touch with the Unemployment Office. It looks like the payment will be on hold until its mutually resolved.

  12. I have Just Filed my New Claim on 5/22/2020. at the end of me filling my claim it told me that i would receive an email within the next few minutes I’m guessing to confirm everything went through or to tell me if i have been Accepted.i never got an email so i thought maybe it didn’t go though or something. so i want to try to it agian and it told me. it had been accepted. so then i tried to do my weekly claim thing and then it just took me to a screen saying my Access to the internet weekly claim System had been suspended. that they have gave me 2 chances to enter earnings and your claim. and then gave me a phone number to call and saying i had 4 days from today to call that number or it could be a result in a denial. i mean i don’t understand why it is saying i had i only just found out everything…… idk what it is that i have had have had 2 chance about… and why am having to call this phone number before i can do it…

I’ve had 8 payments in total issued to My state pay card since 5/01/2020. I just want to know what’s going and where it could possibly be?? Or if possible can I change my payment method from the state card to my bank account for direct deposit?

  18. I filed for unemployment for the first time in the state of Alabama last week. Just received a call from a Steve O’Shea claiming he was with the Alabama Department of Labor, verifying my claim, but his first question was “What is your mother’s maiden name?” I am suspicious of anyone calling me and asking me to prove who I am, especially with a common password reset question. Does this make any sense? He called from a (334) # that cannot be redialed, but have me (205) 458-2230 to call him back. Advise?

    • I have not received my debit card for unemployment, I can’t not get in touch with anyone and I looked up online it has paid me 3 times. I don’t know what to do I’m sick of calling just to be told they have an extremely high amount of calls try again later.

  22. I cannot get a hold of anyone 361-4524 number I reported that I got holiday pay for memorial day and the system locked my claim. No one locally can help, they said I have to call that number until someone answers, I cannot leave a message either. I have literally called 100 times and no one answers

    • I’ve filed a total of five certifications, one showing holding week and four Not Paid. The only information I’ve received though mail is employer wage report. As you already know it’s near impossible to speak with anyone. I’ve called 100’s of times only to get hung up on by automated system. I’ve got bills to pay and mouths to feed. I’m actively seeking employment but I can’t call them all day and night and concentrate on my job search. Could you please give me off peak hours.? I’ve called all hours only to hear the same thing and get hungry up on.

    • Melissa,

They may be experiencing high call volumes. Please try calling during the off-peak hours or try checking the Claim Status online.

      • I filed a weekly claim and it had additional questions this week (ie any reason I would not accept job, did I refuse a interview etc)

It did not like one of my answers and said to call 1-800-361-4524

Calling that number Monday morning (when I can get through ….) only has the option to file a new claim????
