Connecticut Unemployment Weekly Claims

Connecticut Unemployment Benefits

To remain eligible for the Connecticut unemployment insurance program, you must submit a weekly claim for each week you want to receive compensation. This means that you need to regularly inform the DOL about your unemployment status to continue receiving benefits.

Weekly claims to maintain unemployment eligibility

Once you have applied for UI benefits, you will be required to file a weekly claim to confirm that you are still without a job. This continued claim will ask you to disclose any income you earned during the week and provide details about your search for a new full-time job. It is important to complete this weekly claim to maintain the eligibility requirements for unemployment benefits.

After you apply for benefits, you can start submitting your weekly claim on the Sunday following your initial application. It is important to complete your weekly claim by 11:59 PM on Saturday of each week you are requesting benefits.

For example:

If a worker lost their job on Monday, they can file an initial claim for UI benefits on the same day or any other day during that week. Then, on the following Sunday, they can submit their first weekly claim for benefits, which covers the week starting from that Sunday.

Be sure to submit your weekly claim before 11:59 PM on the Saturday of that week to avoid delayed benefit payments or a denial of benefits for that week.

When submitting your weekly claim for Connecticut unemployment benefits, you will be asked:

  • Work search details, including:
    • Type of work search
    • Date of work search
    • Employer name
    • Employer address
    • Employer phone number
    • Position applied for
    • Method of contact
    • Contact name
    • Contact title
    • Contact phone number
    • Contact email
    • Business website
    • Result of contact

Additional questions include:

  • Whether you were physically able and available to work full time
  • Did you start school, college, or training?
  • Did you work in any self-employment?
  • Did you perform any work?
  • Do you have a definite date to return to employment?
  • Did you refuse any offer of work or rehire?
  • Did you receive a payment from a pension?
  • Did you receive severance pay or workers’ compensation?

Before you submit the information, be sure to carefully check all the details to make sure they are correct. It is important to be honest and provide all the necessary information when applying for benefits in Connecticut. Giving false information or intentionally withholding relevant details to receive benefits is considered unemployment fraud.

Even if you are going through the appeals process, it is still necessary to continue filing your weekly claims. If you fail to do so, you may experience a delay or denial of unemployment insurance benefits for the weeks you didn’t file. File your claims on time to stay on track and ensure that you receive your UI benefits.

How to file weekly claims online

You will need to file your weekly claim using the state’s online portal, ReEmployCT. To do so:

  • Visit dol.ct.gov
  • Log in using the username and password you set up when filing your initial application
  • Click the “Weekly Certification” button
  • Answer the questions on the screen
  • Review your answers carefully
  • Click “Submit”

How do I know if my weekly claim was successful?

You can check the status of your weekly claim by logging into your ReEmployCT portal and reviewing your claim information/weekly certification home page.

You can also call the Connecticut consumer contact center if you have questions about the status of a claim or if you need to correct information on a previously submitted claim.

How to collect payment

The Connecticut Department of Labor offers two methods for receiving unemployment compensation: direct deposit or a debit card provided by U.S. Bank ReliaCard. When you file for unemployment benefits through the ReEmployCT portal, you will need to choose between these options.

Please note that for your security, representatives from the Connecticut consumer contact center are not allowed to enroll you in unemployment benefits or set up direct deposit.

You can use the CT unemployment calculator to estimate your weekly benefit amount.

Can I change my preferred payment method?

If you wish to change how you receive your unemployment compensation, you can do so by logging into your ReEmployCT portal and clicking the “Weekly Certification Payment Option Details” button.

  1. Cannot add my direct deposit routing number . It keeps sayinfg “routing number invalid” when the number is Correct . Cant reach anyone on phone

  2. Message Code: 41

Message: Week ending disqualified, indefinite disqualification. Continue to file as directed

Does this mean I lost the case?

    • Michelle,

I am not sure of the background. However, you can look out for notes from the Claims team or call support for clarification.

  3. I have been getting hold payments with code 20, for the last 3 weeks that I have filed. The explanation was they were holding for 2nd-year verification. I tried getting through to an agent and have a call back set up for 2 weeks from now.

  4. What is a code 20? I applied for 2nd year benefits as I letter in mail said I could . I refilled like said and I was approved -got the email and letter in the mail saying I’m allowed another 26 weeks. The money showed up in my unemployment account but shows a code 20 and nothing has been deposited into my account yet and it’s been 3 weeks. Can’t get through any call lines. What do I do?

  5. I have tried several times this past Sunday March 8th to file my claim but the website does not seem to work. I get to the page that says file a weekly claim but it never opens, I did that many times . What do I do as it is so hard to get hold of someone in the office?

  6. I was fired from my big box retail job for breaking a policy I wasn’t even aware we had back in November. I began filing in December and still haven’t gotten any updates or payments. Every week I get code H 42, then this week says H 41. What does this mean and where do I go from here?

    • How long do i have to wait for a check or debit card to be mailed to me, after the unemployment claim was held then paid?

      • Been filing for benefits for 2 months had to reapply cause funds ran out once I applied I got code 42. They stopped payment but they tell me to keep filing. Now I reopened my case and now I get email to continue to file but now have code 41

  7. I am receiving the message “B – OBR – Weekly deduction amount is greater than the weekly benefit amount, no payment issued” I was wondering if someone can explain this to me in layman’s terms? Really appreciate it.

I received payment for 2 weeks, then it stopped for no reason. I have been sending it in each week, but haven’t received anything. When I send it in it always says I am self employed but I’m not. Something needs to be done. Someone need to contact me. Send me a Email or some kind of communication. I have appealed so many times and never received any answer.
    Thank You
    Lori OSullivan

  10. Code 42 means the employer challenged your claim and you have to wait for a hearing code 3 just means that it’s on hold pending them processing it you can probably get the three paid out if you called them as I did but will have to wait for the hearing to get the 42 is paid

    • I am also seeing the code 42 with the message “Week ending held pending status of non- monetary decision. Continue to file as directed.”

But I dont understand why that would mean they are challenging it when they told me they wouldn’t fight it and provided me with paperwork to file unemployment. Please help!

    • I also see code 42 with the message “Week ending held pending status of non- monetary decision. Continue to file as directed.”

But my previous employer told me they were not going to fight it and they sent me paperwork to file unemployment. I dont understand how they could be challenging it. Someone please help!

      • My hearing was on the 12th they are suppose to have ten business days ! No one is helping at unemployment and you cant call the hearing office ! I am three months behind on everything!!!!!

        • I can understand your situation. There will be a delay considering the number of applications that are being processed. Please continue chasing the office/check your status online at regular intervals until payments normalize.

  12. My unemployment is still being held one said code 42 the other two saids code 3 doing anyone no what these code mean

        • Hi Shantelle, I’ve been getting the same code! When you click on it, it says “you may be eligible for a second benefit, please visit http://www.filectui.com to check your eligibility” but I don’t understand! What are we supposed to do, start a whole new claim with the blue button?? It’s so frustrating knowing you can possibly be receiving more help, but cannot access it! Good luck love..sorry I couldn’t be more helpful!

  15. I have message code # 108 now for 3 weeks. Calling the main # at 860-263-6000 over 50 times only results in a phone line disconnection after listening to a long drawn out message that says nothing about codes or code 108, nor does you website say anything about message codes. Please clarify how to resolve this issue without having to drive 90 minutes to stand in line, both of which I am unable to do for handicap reasons. Please advise how or what is needed to resolve CODE # 108. Thank you, Anne

    • I also got a code 108 for last week and this week. Calling is impossible. They have no customer service. The website is useless. How can they just hold your payment with no explanation to you. I’m a widow with no other money coming in.

      • I had a code 108. You have to go to an American Job Center in person. They needed to ask me a question about my claim. I talked to the person at the desk and she cleared it. There’s no other way to do it. It took about 30-40 minutes.

        • I received a message code 108. Since we can’t go to the American Job Center in person how can I get this issue resolved? I filled out a form explaining that I received vacation pay for the the week ending March 21, 2020. I understood I would not be eligible for benefits that week. I thought that I would be eligible going forward.

        • Victor,

We understand this might be a difficult time for you. We’re anticipating a shortage of staff across unemployment offices due to the massive surge in UI applications considering the pandemic. We advise against calling or visiting the office, as you may not get a response instantly. Please read more about the situation here https://fileunemployment.org/coronavirus/

Your state may have activated “Extended Benefits (EB)” authorized by the federal government. We recommend you apply for UI benefits online. For more information, please visit your state’s official Unemployment website.

      • There is nothing on the website that helps you. I also got a code 108 for last week and this week with no explanation to me at all. The website is useless to help you and calling is impossible. It rings and rings and then hangs up on you. The worst customer service anywhere. What are we suppose to do. I haven’t gotten any money for two weeks now with a code 108. I’m a widow with no other money coming in.

  16. Although I apply diligently online weekly, I am told I did not file. This week there was no weekly benefit posted to my account. I call the help line and am told it was posted, but it is not in my account! How many times do I have to try to make arrangements to get to the office, stand in line forever and there still a problem every week. Its never the system. They say they send mail, you never get it and now there has to be another hearing.

  17. CT clearly does not want to pay unemployment insurance. They make it impossible to collect- I’m having problems every week I try – I went to Waterbury office twice. They do NOTHING to help, in fact make it worse. This site says to call the office but NEVER gives a number. What’s the number to call to claim by phone?

    • I am trying to file for my first week of benefits in line bit it will not let me. I need help asap!!!

      • Laura,

I hope you were able to get to the bottom of the issue. If you continue facing issues, please call the Claims centre for assistance.

        • Have filed for unemployment benefits back in February, and have not received anything.I file every week and all I see is code 42 appearing.
Getting a little fed up now!!!!

  18. What causes your claim to be put on hold? It’s been over three weeks and I still haven’t received or heard anything.

    • My name is Ruth Minick 049-64-6711 I am working perdiem work I did not work the week ending 02/02/2019 can I file for that week?

      • Did you ever find out what code 108 means. I am in the same black hole and cannot get a live person at unemployment. It has been 3 weeks now.

      • Ruth,

Unemployment Insurance benefits are only extended to claimants who’re full-time and on rolls of their employer. I am not sure if you qualify, given the nature of your employment. Please call the Unemployment Office.

    • Courtney,

It can be due to multiple reasons ranging from the “claim volume” to a “dispute” from the employer. Make sure to chase the Unemployment Office at regular intervals for an update until they make a decision.

    • Hi there, I was on unemployment for 26 weeks they say my benefits were done in July 2019.

Now I keep getting messages on my phone saying I am entitled to more weeks. Please let me know I am still not working but looking can’t find a job that wants 64 women. • As much as I am aware, there is no extension in weekly benefits beyond 26 weeks. Please call the Unemployment Office for clarification.

    • Sherry,

I can understand your frustration. Please check the payment status over the internet or call the Center during non-peak hours.

    • Jeff,

Ad much as I am aware, UI benefits are not revolving in nature. You can only claim for one full cycle. Please contact the Unemployment Office.

    • The E.U.C(Emergency Unemployment Compensation) remains expired. There is no extension available. Please inquire further with the labor authorities in your state by calling them.
