Indiana Unemployment Weekly Claims

Indiana Unemployment Benefits

Before you can get paid benefits each week, you must file a weekly claim and certify your eligibility for benefits. In Indiana, this is known as a Claim Voucher.

Claim vouchers are due each week after you first apply for Indiana unemployment. Vouchers must be filed between Sunday and 8:59 p.m. Eastern Time on the following Saturday. If you miss the deadline, you won’t get benefits for that week.

How to submit a weekly claim voucher

Weekly claims must be submitted online. Submit your weekly voucher using the Uplink Claimant Self Service. If you don’t have access to the internet, you can visit your local WorkOne office where they have computers and internet available for free.

The website will walk you through how to fill out your voucher, so make sure to read each question and your answers carefully before you submit it. If you run into any trouble, you can call the Indiana Unemployment Unemployment Insurance Division for help.

Claim requirements

When you file a weekly claim voucher for Indiana unemployment benefits, you’re confirming that you’ve met several important requirements:

  • You’ve registered for work on Indiana Career Connect and met all job search requirements. The state of Indiana requires you to perform one approved work search activity each week.
  • You’ve told the state about any work, income, or self-employment you had during that week, whether or not you’ve been paid for it yet.
  • You’ve been upfront about any issues that stopped you from working full time this week.
  • All the personal information and answers you provided on your claim are true and accurate.
  • You acknowledge that lying or leaving out information on purpose to get benefits is Indiana unemployment fraud.

If you’re dishonest or miss key details, there are serious consequences. You could lose your unemployment compensation and even have to pay back the money you got, plus interest and penalties. You could also face legal trouble, both civil and criminal. So be thorough and honest when submitting your weekly claim.

Waiting Week

Every Indiana unemployment applicant must go through a waiting period after applying for UI benefits. The waiting period lasts for one week. Even though you don’t get paid, you still need to file a voucher for that week to stay eligible for benefits.

Delays or Appeals

If your payment is delayed for eligibility reasons, or you have filed an appeal due to a disagreement, be sure to keep submitting your weekly vouchers by the Saturday deadline.

Once the issue is resolved, you’ll get paid if you’re eligible and have been filing on time. Otherwise, you will lose benefits for the weeks you didn’t file.

How to avoid issues with your Indiana unemployment weekly claim

Be Honest

Giving false or incorrect information when you’re filing for UI benefits is illegal and considered fraud. Always make sure every piece of information you provide is correct.

Sign up on Indiana Career Connect

To get UI benefits, you need to register on Indiana Career Connect. The site can help you find a new job and explore careers.

Actively search for work

Each week you want benefits, you must complete a job search activity. Keep records of where you’ve looked for work. You may be asked to provide documented proof of your activities. If you are unable to, your benefits will be denied for that week.

Don’t say no to a suitable job offer

If you refuse a reasonable job, you risk losing or delaying your benefits. You must be able, available, and willing to work to qualify for weekly compensation.

Report all earnings

Report all your earnings for each week you claim benefits. This means any part-time or temporary work, pensions, or other income.

Read the instructions carefully

Get to know the rules for getting UI benefits in Indiana. Reading all the material sent to you can help you avoid errors that might cost you money later on.

  2. It states in my uplink account that retroactive vouchers for the 2 week gap in June 2021 would have been posted on 7/15 and 7/16. • My weekly voucher isn’t showing up either. By the looks of the thread, this is an issue with many people. Maybe a system issue but I don’t see any notifications when logging in.

      • Bro I got 1 deposit then I accidentally put the wrong answer for able and available then called and explained and I have put the correct answer for that question on every voucher since and i still havnt been paid and all my vouchers say A&A…THAT WAS ALMOST 9 WEEKS AGO..all they keep telling me is that someone will call me…. and this is my first week not filing a voucher cause I found a job.

        • Jeff – unfortunately, when I call the customer service number I can’t get to a live person. I checked again this morning and still no voucher form available for me to fill out. Not sure what’s going on.

      • I was unable to file my voucher on Saturday due to internet issues so I had to file it Sunday. The office is closed today as well so I can’t call and ask. What’s gonna happen?

        • I don’t even know if anyone is still here… ?? but I have searched everywhere to figure out what to do, if anyone can help at all. I was in quarantine the first 3 weeks of January which I put on my vouchers… but somehow I accidentally hit that I didn’t accept the work( bc I was in quarantine) so now it says that on my last 3 vouchers. I have no idea how to correct a voucher that has already been sent.

        • Bruce,

Please wait for the representative to get back to you. The office may be inundated with requests.

  8. I was trying to submit my weekly voucher and I was unable to complete due to an error message I received. Now on claimant page shows voucher submitted but no benefit. I have called and messaged numerous time and no answer. Has any on else encountered this type of issue.

    • Same trouble. Suggested they’d call within next business day. Didn’t. The I called again and it said 72 hours and they recognized my number as being in the cue. Still no word after 4 days. Emailed. I got a response saying to wait for a claims adjudicator to contact me. Ahhh when might that be? No resolution or inclination of how or when to expect a response. Frustrated.

      • Scott,

Please try finding answers online since there might be limited phone support due to the shortage of staffing. You can use the “Resources” or “FAQs” section of the website.

        • I’ve had the same trouble each week since 7/13/2020, haven’t been paid since 7/13/2020!!!!! Miss Kim Jones is a reluctant customer service agent!!!!! I’ve called & message a billion time, NEVER a reply!!!!! Indiana’s Unemployment Website sucks camel doo doo

        • Jeffery,

We understand this might be a difficult time for you. We’re anticipating a shortage of staff across unemployment offices due to the massive surge in UI applications considering the pandemic. Please be patient.

    • I honestly think this is some weird glich and they won’t admit to it. It has happened this week (for the 7/12 – 7/18 benefit claim) to a lot of people, you can see this on Reddit. They won’t admit that it’s a mistake on their end, obviously, and are blaming the employer… so we’re just going to have to wait for them to fix it. Honestly, it’s messed up. What it actually means is thaty the business you work for normally shuts down in the summer, regardless, almost like a school. That is NOT the case with my job, and I am currently on hold because of it. All the people on Reddit are talking about this too. I just made a purchase and bought a car, since my old car was messed up, which cost me all the money I had and the savings I had… now I just STOP getting payments from UI for a fault that is not mine… and now I am completely broke. This is such a joke, there are so many people out here struggling. Why don’t they start offering people jobs to help out, as obviously they are way behind? My friend, with 3 kids, have been waiting over 2 months for benefits and being harassed by her Mortgage Company… when asked, they never admit fault, they just said “we are waiting on your employer”… No, they are short staffed and need more people to deal with the crisis right now. HIRE ME, HIRE PEOPLE HERE NEEDING HELP, WE WILL GLADLY WORK. Sad.

      • I also received the same issue. My employer is not shut down either. WTH. I had no idea what it even meant till I googled it. Thanks for the info.

  9. I just filed for my PUA last week… i didn’t know I was approved for retroactive payments, and only filed last weeks. Ive been unemployed since February.. is there a way to file for those missed weeks?

    • Sam,

The payment might not become retroactive. Please check for related info on the Unemployment Office website.

      • Same thing I applied for my UI in May though I laid off in March however they didn’t send me vultures for March and April

      • I forgot to claim my voucher on Sunday .. I filed on Monday .. well Sunday night .. will that effect my benefits?

        • So if it submitted at 1130 pm Sunday and you did not receive payment Monday when will it arrive and is saying no issues

        • Chelle,

If you filed within the stipulated window, you should receive the payment on time.

  10. I work for heartland rd got layoff March 23 it has been 3weeks still haven’t got no money yet don’t go back to work until may4. Heartland sent them a paper of who got layoff because of coronavirus. Please help me

        • Taylor,

I can understand your situation. There will be an intermittent delay due to the pendency. Please keep following up at regular intervals.

      • I’d really like to know what kind of order is used. When processing applications as far as who goes first .Not that everybody doesn’t need help in some way right now if they’ve lost their job to the coronavirus but there are other families out here struggling much worse than some families that are collecting. I’m not just referring to my family! Literally everyone close to me that is got an appointment is completely shocked that me and my family of five 4 of being children are still waiting. It definitely separates out or vouchers when asking if we’re at home caring for dependents. I will be filing my seventh voucher this week. And I know there’s many more of people with dependents also still waiting

        • Bethany,

I can understand your situation. Unfortunately, there’s not much one can do at this juncture. Please be patient and keep checking the status at regular intervals.

      • I got yellow explanation mark and have not received anything to resolve. I’m currently unemployed due to COVID-19

        • We are sorry to hear about your difficulties. There is a huge shortage of staff across all unemployment offices due to a massive surge in UI applications. • Please send that back to me. So I can post it for all to see. I am only speaking the the truth. But you will probably want to hid the truth from the people. But it doesn’t matter I can write it again. Maybe a word or two off, from exactly the Truth.

Now for this one I finished my Initial claim, and my 1st voucher after the claim is done. I didn’t get paid for it which I understand that it’s normal procedure. But now I’m on my 2nd week and after I am finished I get a yellow flag saying I am Employed and working Full-Time. I stated that I am layed off.
