New Mexico Unemployment Weekly Claims

New Mexico Unemployment Benefits

The New Mexico unemployment insurance program helps workers who are currently out of a job and seeking new employment by providing them with temporary financial assistance. In order to claim your benefits, you will need to submit a claim every week to the state.

Weekly claims maintain unemployment eligibility

Once you have been approved to receive unemployment benefits, you will need to submit a weekly certification to show the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions that you are following the eligibility requirements for unemployment insurance. You must submit this claim every week that you want to collect UI benefits.

The benefit week runs from Sunday through the following Saturday, and you cannot submit a weekly claim until the week has ended. While the New Mexico unemployment program does not specify the deadline for submitting a weekly claim, you should complete it in a timely manner to avoid payment delays.

When submitting a weekly claim for New Mexico unemployment, you will be asked:

  • Did you work during the week?
  • Were you offered a job?
  • Did you quit your job?
  • Were you terminated from a job?
  • Did you receive any pension payments?
  • Were you available to work more than 20 hours?
  • Did you meet the work search activity requirements?
  • If you worked, what were your earnings?
  • Did you return to work full time?
  • Did you earn any income from self-employment?
  • How many work search contacts did you make?
  • Which companies did you contact?
  • How do you plan to search for work this week?

Before submitting your claim, double check all the information you provided for accuracy. It is important to be truthful and not withhold any information in order to receive benefits. If claimants are caught lying or withholding information, it can be considered unemployment fraud in New Mexico.

Remember to continue submitting weekly benefit claims, even if you are going through the appeals process. Not filing a claim may result in a delay or denial of unemployment compensation for each week that you do not file.

How to file weekly claims

There are two ways to file your weekly certification claims: online and by phone. Whenever possible, it is highly recommended that you file your weekly claims online, as it avoids long wait times by phone.

Online

Follow these steps to submit your weekly claim online:

  1. Visit jobs.state.nm.us
  2. Click “Log in” at the top right corner of the page
  3. Select “Individual”
  4. Log into the Unemployment Insurance and Tax Claims system with the credentials you created when submitting an initial application
  5. Click “Unemployment Insurance Benefits”
  6. Click “Start Weekly Certification”
  7. Answer all questions accurately and honestly
  8. Review and confirm your options
  9. Click the “Submit” button
  10. Write down your confirmation number

If the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions needs additional information to process your weekly claim for UI benefits, you will receive a questionnaire.

Phone

If you choose to file your weekly claims by phone, you will need to call the UI operations center and talk to a live representative. You can do this Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. MST.

How do I know if my weekly claim was successfully submitted?

Once you submit your unemployment claim online or by phone, you will receive a confirmation number. Be sure to write down or print this number for your records.

You can also check the status of your weekly filing by looking at the “Pending Weekly Certifications” section of the online portal.

How to collect payment

When you file for New Mexico unemployment benefits, you can choose to have your payments sent by direct deposit or debit card. If you already signed up for direct deposit or a debit card on a previous claim, the state will use the account information on file to process payments. However, if that information is out of date, you are responsible for correcting it.

If you are filing for unemployment compensation for the first time, you can sign up for direct deposit by selecting it as your payment option in the Unemployment Insurance Tax & Claims system. You will need to provide your bank’s routing number, account number, and account type. It can take up to a week to verify your direct deposit information.

Alternatively, you can choose to receive your benefits on a Wells Fargo Debit Card.

Can I change my preferred payment method?

You can change your preferred payment method at any time on the Unemployment Insurance Tax & Claims system. It’s important to note, however, that you may receive a paper check in the mail while the department processes the update.

  1. I applied in June and they told me I was eligible for back pay from March to June and that I would receive a check in six to eight weeks. I still have not got it!how do I find out what’s going on how do I get it!

    • John,

I can understand your situation. There will be a delay considering the number of applications that are being processed. Please continue chasing the office/check your status online at regular intervals until payments normalize.

      • I field for unemployment in July of last year and never received an approval or denial. I field again in June of this year and was told I got approved just never certified. Now I can’t certify, due to I need to link my accounts. I sent in a copy of my identification & Social security Card as requested and still haven’t received any status to certify or not. This is so frustrating none sea to help me . I can’t get through to speak to a live representative. Not even on my days to call. My stimulus checks have been issued and cashed but I never received them someone else has gotten them.

  2. Why was my weekly certifacation denied from 8/30 to 9/5? I did everything the same as every other week before? Why can i not view the determination?

  3. Self employed licensed professional sole proprietor here. I applied, as directed, before the 26th when the program for self employed was opened. I was declined as expected because $0.00 income (as was told I would be). On the 26th at 1:00 AM I reapplied, providing income, uploaded 1040, 1040C 1040SE, and it seemed to all be in order. The next day I sign on and there are several messages saying I was approved. The next day I get messages I was declined becasue I didn’t provide work seeking for the weeks unemployed. The form wasn’t designed for self employed, so I couldn’t fill that in. On Thursday I reached a real person at NMWFS and he was very helpful and walked through each period and completed all certifications. The next day I’m declined again because I didn’t have job seeking on my certifications. I appeal all certs with detailed information that I’m prohibited from working because of my job requirements. Several hours later – Thursday – I sign on again and the most recent week was approved and “paid” via direct deposit. All other periods show “submitted.” As of now, no funds deposited and other periods still say “submitted.” What should expect with the “submitted” weeks and when should I expect to see a deposit in my account? Do I need to do anything? Also, I received a WF debut card that has a negative balance. What’s that about?

  4. I have completed my 1 week waiting period and have filed my certifications. When will I receive my first check and will I receive a check each week or each month or…?

    • You should receive anytime now if it has been approved and you’ve made the weekly claim.

Please chase the Claims Center for an update on payment status.

  5. If I am searching for work out of state and am logging in outside of New Mexico, is there a problem? Somebody told me I can’t log in to the certification system from out of state.

    • Allen,

I am not sure if that is true. Please call the Claims Center on the phone numbers provided for an update.

    • Payment will be made as per the procedure.

Please call the Claims Center and speak to a representative to ascertain the exact payment credit date.

  6. when I log on I answer all the questions that are asked and when I reach the end I am being thanked for successfully completing form but not once have been asked if I looked for employment and where. I assumed that I was supposed to include that, is this optional? or am I doing something wrong? this is twice already.

    • *** read this important *** Select the option spanish/espanol (even if you need english) when trying to reach an agent. They connect quicker . Then once you get connected, say you need english not spanish, and you’ll get an agent speaking english sooner this way.

    • Please try visiting the nearest Unemployment Office or see if you can check online by logging onto the official website for an update.

        • Shay,

That is strange. Please consult a friend/family member to have this clarified for best action/response.
