What information will I need when I call?
When calling the Claim Assistance and Re-employment Team, they may ask for identifying information to find your application for UI benefits. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Your name
- Social Security number
- Phone number
- 4-digit PIN
What is my PIN?
When you first apply for unemployment compensation, you will be prompted to choose a four-digit number that serves as your PIN. Your PIN is like your signature, and you will use it every time you file a weekly claim for unemployment benefits.
It’s important to keep your PIN secret. Do not share it with anyone. If someone uses your PIN to receive benefits improperly or dishonestly, you will be held responsible for those payments.
How do I change my PIN?
If you need to change your PIN, you can do so by calling a Claims Assistant or by logging into the Utah Department of Workforce Services’ portal by visiting https://jobs.utah.gov/ and selecting “My Unemployment” and “Login.”

I recently reopened my case, it is a seasonal claim but when I reopened it it say I need to fill out the weekly job search requirements. I was also told that when I reopened it there would be no waiting week but I did not receive any payment for that week. I have been on hold now for 5 hours today and have been told twice that the hotline is not taking calls. is there anywhere that I can get this fixed?
How do I get a phone number for utah jobdepartment.com I want a phone number not an E-mail
address
Misty,
We understand this might be a difficult time for you. We’re anticipating a shortage of staff across unemployment offices due to the massive surge in UI applications considering the pandemic. We advise against calling or visiting the office, as you may not get a response instantly.
Your state may have activated “Extended Benefits (EB)” authorized by the federal government. We recommend you apply for UI benefits online. For more information, please visit your state’s official Unemployment website.
I have been trying to file my unemployment claim for over 3 months. Noone answers the hotline or responds to the live chat. How can I get help with this. I have filed to reopen my claim and it just refers me to the same phone number for Utah County. I live in Orem. Please help me.
Kevin,
The Unemployment Office might be inundated with pending requests. Please visit the website to find the answers.
I started back to work on August 01, 2016 at 6:30 a.m. to 5:00p.m. Monday through Friday.my salary is $13.00 per hour. My place of employment is east ridge solar project in cedar city. Because I start early and come home after 5:30 pm each day, I haven’t been able to call during business hours. So my question is about getting one more week of hi eligibility because I won’t receive my first check until two weeks, as I. Just finished my first week of employment.I will fill out my weekly report, and we’ll reflect that with my starting date of employment. Thank you
Please note this is a private forum. You can call the Unemployment Office for clarification.
If you’ve a job in hand, you will not be eligible.
What happens if someone is let go from a job during the 6 month probationary period?
If the person is let go due to voluntary reasons such as performance issues, he/she will not qualify for benefits.
Otherwise, if its a lay off, such person can be eligible.
I applied for unemployment in December and still haven’t received anything. I haven’t gotten a call or email regarding this either. Do you know who I should call or get a hold of?
You must have received an update by now.
Please call the claims center and ask for an update on the processing status.

I live in AZ and work in Utah for about 20 year I’ve been laid off and filed for unemployment benefits. But Utah has denied me of benefits saying I need to apply for benefits in AZ. AZ denied me because I’ve not work in AZ what should I do
You must speak the representatives of the labor dept in Utah again. One must file for benefits from the state where he/she was employed.
Please ask for an adjudicator if they stick to their stand.
I WORKED IN UTAH during April and May of 2013. I filed for my unemployment in Washington State where I reside and also worked. My wages during that time in Utah were over $15,000. Washington State says that Utah does not show nor have they transferred these wages to Washington State as of today. Please check your records and let me know if you show these wages earned in Utah.
