West Virginia Unemployment Extension

Federally funded Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) benefits have been extended by one year for unemployed workers who are currently collecting federal jobless benefits. The benefits will be available through the week ending December 28, 2013. This changed the previous expiration date of December 29, 2012. The extension was approved by Congress and signed into law by President Obama on January 2, 2013.

Unemployed workers who run out of state benefits during 2013 will now potentially be eligible for benefit extensions, as well. This applies to all federally funded EUC benefits. Currently, the EUC program is providing up to 37 weeks of benefits in addition to 26 weeks under the regular state benefits program.

The one year extension did not add any additional weeks of benefits to the EUC program but just extended the time EUC benefits are payable. No EUC benefits can be paid after the week ending December 28, 2013, even if there is a remaining benefit balance.

WorkForce West Virginia will mail affected claimants a notice of this extension, as well as post details online at Individuals may also call toll free 1-800-252-5627 (JOBS) for additional information. WorkForce West Virginia encourages claimants to use the agency’s free job services to find employment.
