Arizona Unemployment Extension

Arizona Unemployment Extension

Extended Benefits programs provide financial assistance to individuals who have exhausted their regular Arizona unemployment insurance benefits and are still seeking employment. These benefits are typically offered during times of high unemployment, natural disasters, and national pandemics.

Are Extended Benefits currently available in Arizona?

Arizona does not currently offer any Extended Benefits. As of 2023, unemployed workers are eligible for 24 to 26 weeks of benefits, depending on the current unemployment rate. To estimate how much you’ll be paid each week, you can use the Arizona unemployment calculator.

Arizona Unemployment Extended Benefits (EB) Program

Extended Benefits is a federally-funded unemployment program that provides additional financial assistance to people who exhausted their regular state unemployment benefits and are still seeking work. The program is designed to provide support during times of high unemployment and help those who are struggling to make ends meet while searching for employment.

Arizona triggers Extended Benefits (EB) when the state’s insured unemployment rate (IUR) reaches or exceeds 5% for three consecutive months. The IUR is the percentage of people who are unemployed and receiving Arizona unemployment benefits. Once the EB program is triggered, eligible claimants can receive up to 13 weeks of additional benefits, provided they meet the program’s requirements.

Arizona Disaster Unemployment Assistance

If you lose your job or can’t work because of a major disaster, you may be eligible for financial help from the Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) program.

DUA is a program that gives temporary financial help to people who can’t get regular unemployment compensation and who lost their work because of a disaster. In Arizona, the DUA program is managed by the Arizona Department of Economic Security for the US Department of Labor, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

To be eligible, you must have lost your job or self-employment directly because of the disaster, not because of other things that happened because of the disaster.

CARES Act and American Rescue Plan

The CARES Act and American Rescue Plan Act were federal laws designed to provide economic relief to individuals and businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of these laws, the federal government has provided additional funding and expanded eligibility for UI benefits programs.

These programs offered financial support to individuals who lost their jobs or had their hours reduced due to the pandemic, and who may not have been eligible for traditional unemployment benefits.

Additionally, the laws provided for increased funding for state unemployment programs and extended the duration of benefits for those who have exhausted their regular unemployment benefits.

Under the CARES Act, Arizona received $1.86 billion in funding to support a wide range of programs and services, including UI benefits, small business assistance, and healthcare initiatives. The American Rescue Plan Act allocated an additional $4.6 billion to Arizona, with a significant portion of the funds earmarked for economic recovery efforts, including support for unemployment benefits, rental assistance, and infrastructure projects.

Federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance

Federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) was a program designed to provide unemployment benefits to individuals who were not eligible for traditional unemployment insurance, such as self-employed individuals, gig workers, and those with limited work history.

In Arizona, the Department of Economic Security administered the PUA benefits program and provided cash assistance to eligible individuals who were directly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program offered up to 79 weeks of benefits, which included a weekly benefit amount plus an additional $300 per week in federal pandemic unemployment compensation.

Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation

The Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) program was a federal program that provided additional weeks of unemployment benefits to individuals who exhausted their regular unemployment insurance benefits.

In Arizona, the PEUC program provided up to 53 weeks of additional benefits to eligible unemployed workers.

Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation

The Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) program provided additional financial support to individuals who were receiving unemployment benefits.

In Arizona, FPUC payments provided an additional $300 per week, in addition to their regular UI benefits. The program provided much-needed financial assistance to those who lost their jobs or had their work hours reduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. FPUC benefits were available for up to 25 weeks and were paid automatically to those who qualified.

Mixed Earnings Unemployment Compensation

The Mixed Earners Unemployment Compensation (MEUC) program was a federal program that provided additional benefits to individuals who had both traditional employment wages and self-employment income.

In Arizona, eligible individuals received an additional $100 per week in MEUC benefits, in addition to their regular unemployment benefits, Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), or other eligible unemployment benefits programs.

To be eligible for MEUC in Arizona, individuals must have earned at least $5,000 in self-employment income in the most recent taxable year, were eligible for regular unemployment benefits or PUA, and were receiving at least $1 of benefits under those programs.

  1. Are you guys going to extend based on covid 19??? Cause I think you should. Arizona is only state that hasn’t done any extensions.

    • We are sorry to hear about your difficulties. There is a huge shortage of staff across all unemployment offices due to a massive surge in UI applications. We advise against calling or visiting the office, as you may not get a response. Your state has activated the ‘emergency funding’ program authorized by the federal government. We recommend you to apply for UI benefits online. For more information, please visit your state’s official website.

  2. My unemployment ran out 6 months ago. I only had the normal 26 weeks. Is there any Arizona extensions available at this time?

    • The E.U.C(Emergency Unemployment Compensation) remains expired. There is no extension available. Please inquire further with the labor authorities in your state by calling them.

  3. So I take it since its been two years since they voted on the euc, that by now it must have failed. The question becomes what as citizens do we do to get congress to hear us or to get the vote reevaluated as quickly as possible? The standard 26 weeks is insufficient time to gauge work related searches, as long as the individual is dedicated to find work and still unable to this should be taken into account.

    • My unemployment will be running out within the next week or so. Can you tell me how to proceed with Arizona Unemployment Extension?

      Thank you for your assistance!

      • Sharon,

The E.U.C(Emergency Unemployment Compensation) remains expired. There is no extension available. Please inquire further with the labor authorities in your state by calling them.

    • Rick,

That is correct. We keep a track of various legislations in the country and the extension seems to go nowhere. Perhaps, you can create a petition online (change.org) and get like minded people to sign. Once you gather a significant number of signees, you can present the same to the Governor.

    • As far as I am aware, there is no extension available in any state.

Please call the Unemployment Office in your state to confirm.

  4. My unemployment runs out in two weeks and although I have submitted lots of job applications, the possibility of getting a job soon seems unlikely. What benefits, if any, does the State of Arizona offer to compensate for the cash loss of my benefits?

    • That’s why the unemployment rate is so low because they don’t offer EUC benefits when you run out. So basically it’s to bad so sad but people are not finding jobs. I am 3 weeks away from my unemployment benefits in the State of Arizona and apparently I have a bachelors degree with student loans that are deferred, but unable to find a job, even jobs that only need high school diploma are not calling me back. That’s a major setback on The State of Arizona. Then when you used to work for the state, as I did they have a “non rehire” list even though it says “re hire able” in your personnel file. It’s all corruption and it won’t change as long as Governor Ducey is in there. Look at what’s all over the news about the prisons and nothing is changing and no one is saying anything.

    • Please note there is no federal extension available.

You can call the Unemployment Office to inquire about availability of state-sponsored benefits.

  5. My benefits are going to be running out in a couple weeks. I have been trying to read up if they have approved the extensions. Can you give me some more info on this please.

    • Please note there is no federal extension available.

You can call the Unemployment Office in your state for further information.

  6. I am so unclear on this. I started receiving unemployment benefits on 1/3/14 (Tier 1?). I have two weeks left of the initial amount approved. I have looked for a job every day, to no avail. At this point in time, am I not able to file for any extension at all?

  7. im about to exhaust my 26 weeks of unemployment benefits…do i have an extension? or they gonna stop sending the checks …im in Phoenix,AZ

  8. To poster #1, I too had $400.00+ left in my extension which I thought I would get that and then it would end. This does not make sense and I have a feeling that State of AZ illegally kept money that was already allocated to us. I have tried to phone my congressman (republican) Paul Gosar, but he has an answering machine and doesn’t return calls. It seems like AZ is scamming us.

  9. I HAD ALMOST $ 2000.00 ON DECEMBER 28,IN MY UNEMPLOYMENT THAT WAS TO HELP ME,IT IS GONE NOW,THIS GOVERNMENT IS READY TO DONATE OVER FIVE BILLION DOLLARS TO PEOPLE WHO DO NOT EVEN LIKE US,WHILE PEOPLE HERE IN AMERICA ARE DENIED UNEMPLOYMENT TO WHICH WE HAVE CONTRIBUTED.THE PRESIDENT IS USING HIS PEN ON THE WRONG LEGISLATION,PEOPLE ARE IN SERIOUS TROUBLE,INCLUDING ME

    • My unemployment has ran out and recently my kids dad left us and we have an apartment so rent is due the 1st. I managed to pay electric Nd rent last month but I was given 15.00 what am I suppose to do

      • Celina,

Please reach out to your state to check for availability of extended benefits and also to inquire about job connect and training programs.

  10. I just thought I heard unemployment extentions were approved by the state. Does anyone know if true? 4/3/2014

    • It has been voted for by a majority in the senate but not yet approved by the house.

Please keep a track of national news in this regard and apply for EUC when extended.

  11. i need to know ,was my employment befits extended,i believe i am in tier 2,but not sure

    • Hello, I dont work for any government office, just trying to get information on current unemployment info. I saw your question. If your on tier 2 you cannot apply for anymore benefits until congress votes to approve an extention. I am also waiting but my claim is still open to allow me to file, If yours is letting you still file weekly claims do it, I was told to keep filling on the open claim. It will show the next day under disqualifications or it will say benefits exhausted. As soon as congress approves benefits they should send you something letting you know what to do next. They are expected to approve it this coming week on Thursday. Good luck to everyone out there looking the job market is really ruff right now!

  12. I have applied for extended benefits almost a month ago. you sent me some question about the school I was attending and sent it back. never heard anymore. tried to do my weekly claim, but was unable to. so I applied again. what the hell is going on. can’t reach anyone. always busy or get a voice sayiny can’t get through do to too many callers. I need help now.
