Be all set for long wait times because lots of people are trying to call. Be tolerant and you will get through to someone who can assist you. Even though it is frustrating to wait so long, be courteous while speaking to a concerned person. The staffers on the other line are over-worked and are doing everything to help you.

If the phone lines are busy when you call, try again in a few minutes. Once you’re queued up to talk with a representative, don’t hang up and call back. Doing so will only lengthen your wait and send you back to the end of the line. Calls are answered in the order that they are received.

If you have questions about your initial application for Missouri unemployment, you can call a regional number for help.

Regional Claims Centers representatives are available from 8 am to 5 pm Central Time, Monday through Friday, except holidays.

Job Matching

Missouri Job Centers can match your skills and experience with suitable work opportunities. This can significantly streamline your job search process and improve your chances of receiving a job offer.

Resume Writing Assistance

Crafting a compelling resume can often be the difference between landing an interview or not. The centers provide expert guidance on resume writing, helping individuals effectively showcase their skills and experience, and increasing their chances of securing employment.

WorkKeys / National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC)

At Missouri Job Centers, you have the opportunity to earn the NCRC, which is a credential that you have essential workplace skills. This certificate can enhance your employability and stand out to potential employers. It is beneficial for both unemployed individuals and employers seeking candidates with proven capabilities.

Career Networking

Networking can often lead to job opportunities that aren’t widely advertised. The centers offer resources and events that facilitate career networking, allowing individuals to connect with potential employers, industry professionals, and peers. This can be particularly important for local offices and official government organizations looking for new talent.

Veteran Services

Each Missouri Career Center is dedicated to supporting veterans in their transition from military service to the civilian workforce. They offer priority service to veterans and their eligible spouses, allowing them to leverage their skills and experience.

In addition to these specific employment services, Missouri Job Centers offer job training and apprenticeship opportunities. Whether you’re in large cities like St. Louis and Kansas City or smaller areas like Jefferson City and St. Joseph, visiting your local office can be very beneficial while you look for a new job.

  1. My Lady filed for unemployment benefits back in 2020, due to COVID. She had to go to the hospital for an emergency surgery and her job required her to quarantine for two weeks, then something else happened and back in the hospital so quarantine again and it wound up being 6 weeks quarantine. She is a nurse and worked at a nursing home, so they had to be very careful and the employer required the quarantine. Now the state of MO is wanting the money back. She’s worked 20plus years never made a claim, files a claim and according to the dept. Of labors website she meets the requirements at that time with the Covid and then the state comes after her. And I didn’t realize this was happening until it was too late, she just figured she was screwed, so we missed the appeals thing I believe. The government sucks and for a program to issue money and then try and take it back is bullshit. I’m getting a hold of the institute for Justice and hiring an attorney I don’t care what it costs also I am notifying papers, radio and television as well as posting on fb about how crooked the government is in MO. Just sad work all your life, need a little help and kick ya right in the face……

  2. I filed a weekly request for payment for the week ending on 06/19/2021. I didn’t notice that I had answered a question wrong. As a result, I didn’t get the payment. How do I go about solving this issue?

    • I do not have a phone capable of reaching these phone numbers. Can I contact via mail? My family really doesn’t want me to get my hands on these beautiful benefits.

      • Madeleine – here is a mailing address and a FAX number:
        421 East Dunklin
        P.O. Box 59
        Jefferson City, MO 65102-0059
        Fax: 573-751-4945

  3. I have went through my appeal hearing decision was over turned in my favor 2 months ago there paying me back until April 2020 but every time I call they tell me I’m not approved yet so please help me with this matter who do I go over there head.

    • Michelle,

The best way to solve this is by following up frequently until they fix it for you. Please consider the option of visiting an office in the vicinity if safe and feasible (you may need any appointment).

  4. I have called tons of time and tried all the menu options to get a representative and and at the end the automated system ends my call and get me out of the call. SO, pllease help me or call me! If you have question I will be more than happy to help. Please I kindly request your help. Thanks and God bless!

    • Jimmy,

I can understand your situation. There will be a delay considering the number of applications that are being processed. Please continue chasing the office/check your status online at regular intervals until payments normalize.

  5. My job has been eliminated do to COVID 19, but my work is trying to get me to do a job that is not within my department or what they hired me for. I want to know who to contact to talk about filing unemployment? this is due to the covid 19 pandemic, no fault of my own… Who do I call? Do I need to go to an office in person? I have not told me work I am voluntarily quitting because I am not doing the job I was hired for…. I live and work within St. Louis County…

    • Katherine,

It looks like you’re losing employment due to involuntary reasons. Please consider applying. You don’t have to call anyone to start the process.

      • I have filed for unemployment over 39 days ago. Issue on file, and had to mail a DD214 to the office. I have done so, and have been trying to get a hold of the unemployment office but “all the lines are busy” and have been “busy” for the last week and a half. I really need to speak to someone to resolve this issue.

        • Lucas,

I can understand your situation. There will be a delay considering the number of applications that are being processed. Please continue chasing the office/check your status online at regular intervals until payments normalize.

  6. I have made weekly payment requests and they all say issue on file. I have tried calling emailing how do i resolve this issue.

      • Call lines and full and the automated system hangs up. How do we contact someone when no one will return emails, calls or fax’s?

  7. I recently made a weekly request for payment last week and my payment still says scheduled for processing seven days later so I was wondering is there something messed up or will it just eventually go through.

    • Zechariah,

There will be a delay considering the number of applications that are being processed. Please continue chasing the office/check your status online at regular intervals until payments normalize.

  8. I’m out of work because of medical reasons I want to know if I can get unemployment while out of work

  9. My first claim status says that I received payment today. However, as of 8:41 pm there is nothing in my bank account showing that I have received payment. Is there usually a delay on when the website says I have been paid vs. when it shows up in my account?

    • Brandon,

I can understand your situation. Please wait. There will be thousands of applications for the office to be processed. Make sure to check the status at regular intervals.

  10. I’m trying get hold because I try do a claim on the internet and it says I exceed maximum sign up and call and didn’t go to the next page

  11. I’ve been calling several times d at for over a week now. And cannot even get placed on hold! The line keeps releasing and I tried emailing! I just need my username reset!

    • Angelica,

Considering the COVID-19 pandemic, the Unemployment Office may be severely short-staffed. Please try the password on the official website.

  12. I had to reschedule my appointment at the jobs career center and my unemployment was immediately cut off… a week later I attended my appointment and I still have not received any benefits I thought my benefits would continue once I went to my appointment how long does it take to get my unemployment back or is there something I need to do and will I get my back pay I can’t get ahold of anyone to ask

  13. I cannot get a username and password to suit the site. So that being said., I did apply online, got into in the mail and have applied to several jobs online. Due to not being able to check in weekly (and I have tried) I have missed these past 2 weeks. I plan on going into our local office on Monday. Any suggestions?

    • Shona,

If you haven’t received ID/password, please call the Claims Center before visiting. You might find a resolution to your issue over the phone.

  14. I filed unemployment and just got my card wondering when will money be on card do they hold back a week or what I filed last week and got approved and amount im gonna get just wondering so I can pay my bills and know when I can tell them when I can pay them

  15. i worked 3 jobs last summer and quit 2 because of no hrs. now my 3rd job is in a decline. i applied for unemployment benefits but i have been denied because i quit those 2 jobs and that was 7 months ago. is this legal?

  16. I need to find out if it is worth filing an appeal. I was truthful and said I could not work one day because I was sick. That day was on Friday. I think that that is ridiculous. It was just one day. There is a push in most companies not to go to work if you are sick. Is it worth appealing?

    • Kathleen,

If you feel you were asked to leave on the basis of your “Sick Leave”, it might be worth the appeal. Make sure to keep supporting documents and paperwork handy.

  17. My wife and I are live in Property managers of a mobile home community.. We started and moved into the managers apartment in March of 2017. Without warning and with no prior notices we were handed termination notices this morning. Because we live on property we were also given a 3 day eviction notice and told we have until 5pm Friday to get all of our personal property off premises and be out. Is this legal?

    • Robert,

Please note this is a forum on Unemployment Insurance benefits. We’re not knowledgeable in your area of concern. Please consult a lawyer or lookup for a suitable forum on the internet to discuss the situation.

  18. Two weeks ago I got a double payment loaded on my card and last week I didn’t receive any payment. I filed again today will I receive a payment this week. Will I receive my payment this week?

    Thanks!

    • Tamara,

To get a precise answer to your question, please call the Claims Center at the phone numbers provided.

  19. My ex-employer is giving me severance pay but instead of lump sum, they are spreading out to 9 bi-weekly payments,
how will my unemployment work? should I wait to apply or do I have to report these payments?

  20. Well. The company I work for has offered me A Voluntary Lay Off plus a Severance Package. If, I go ahead and take the Package; would I be able to collect Unemployment Benefits?. I will be 70 in about four months. Please advise. Thks.

    • If you were let go due to reasons such as layoffs, you can draw UI benefits.

If it says “voluntary”, then you may not qualify.

  21. I have been collecting unemployment since the beginning of Feb. As of last week I found a new job, however, I do not start until next week. Can I still collect unemployment for this week (the week prior to starting the new job)? Since I have found a job I am no longer searching. How do I fill out my Weekly Request for Payment for this week? Since to qualify I should have made at least 2 contacts.

    • I am guessing you should be able to claim.

Please call the Claims Center for further instructions regarding the filing procedure.

  22. I work for a company based from KS but work for them in MO, I was layed off after 10yrs with co.and the last 3 yrs was in MO. I am filing for benefits in MO. why are they telling me it will be 12 weeks to decide. I need my benefits now to pay rent and bilks.

    • This looks strange. They generally do not take more than 7-10 days to process and decide on an initial claim.

Please call and speak to a representative. If needed, ask for a supervisor.

  23. I am a employer and have filed a response on line. When filling I notice that there are other claims needing a response. I have filed responses to these claims within 5 days.Do I need to keep filing responses?

  24. My job is being eliminated some time in January and I will be out of work. I will have vacation & severance pay coming. I also receive Social Security.
Can I apply for unemployment? What do I need to do?

    • You can be eligible to apply for UI benefits after the Severance pay period is over. Most of the states do allow provision of both Unemployment Insurance and SS benefits.

  25. I was promised insurance when hire a month and a half later they transferre me to another llc they own and said they are not offering insurance they do not have enough ppl that they have to offer it. On the llc I was on they offer and offered it to ppl. Can I get unemployment while I look for a job that offers insurance if I quit.

    • Well, if you quit voluntarily, you will not be eligible.

Please check further with the labor authorities in your state.

  26. I am receiving benefits and I have went to 2 of my job training programs I no longer have tranportation to make it to my next class that is tomorrow .
