My status has shown as “pending” for months now with to update or response. I have tried to reach someone repeatedly with no answer or returned called. How can this be escalated to a Supervisor? Thank you in advance.
Hi, Suzanne – let’s first check the number you’re calling. You should be able to reach the Customer Call Center at 888-737-0259. If you’re on social media, another option is to reach out to the North Carolina Department of Employment Security via Twitter. You shouldn’t share any specifics of your situation via social media, but you can ask about an alternate number or how to reach a supervisor if your calls are going unanswered. You also can try the online Customer Contact form, available here: https://des.nc.gov/customer-contact-form.
I have been trying to get unemployment since October 2021. Youhave this new thing called ID me which will not ID me. The 800 number I was given to call can’t take anymore calls because their hold cube is full. It has been full for the going on 3 weeks. I cannot get on my unemployment account because of it.I would appreciate it if someone would help me. I’m a computer dummy.
Rachel,
I can understand your situation. Please consider the option of visiting an office in the vicinity if safe and feasible (you might be required to book an appointment prior to the website).
Someone needs to call me! I have been trying to get money that was owed to me for over a year and they just keep putting back in escalation. No resolution just bad information and lies no one can do anything. Please help!!
Vince,
I can understand your situation. There will be a delay considering the number of applications that are being processed. Please continue chasing the office/check your status online at regular intervals until payments normalize.
I have had my account escalated for over a year. Every person I talk too gives me a different story some say I have been approved give it 72 hours and have lied. No one you can talk to can give you any meaningful information. I just want the money that’s rightfully owed to me. Been waiting since Nov 2020 this is absurd.
Vince,
Please consider the option of visiting an office in the vicinity if safe and feasible (you might be required to book an appointment prior to the website).
Same thing happen to me and I lost signal too and they couldn’t call me back it’s ridiculous!!!

Vickie,
The Unemployment Office might be inundated with pending requests. Please visit the website to find the answers.
Listen, this is the worst state in the country to collect unemployment. I’ve been laid off since 11/15 and haven’t received a check yet. I’m told that my employer has responded and it’s under pending review by the adjudicator since last Thursday. When I asked how does that process work, I was told first come first serve! Really????? They are playing with people livelihood and this is absolutely absurd! I’ve written the legislator and his reply was, oh my wife filed and it took her x amount of weeks… the key word is “your wife,” I’m single and no one provides anything for me. I’m entitled to unemployment and shouldn’t have to go through all of this to collect my funds. I’m looking at moving out of this state to somewhere that has better laws as it relates to benefits for US citizens.
Have been trying for 2 years to get my I’d verified. Cannot get on website and no one can help. I have talked to everyone that answers the phone at sea
NC.gov
No help. Now they want all benefit money back. HELP!! Not computer savvy. 62 years old and out of options!
Good luck I filled on 03 29 2020. I still have not received my first payment. I can’t get any straight answers and my claim has been accelerated to “higher ups”. But nothing has been resolved.
This is the worst ever.
I need help and no one seems to be able to help or answer the phone.
Hi Jamie, Did you ever get the issue resolved? I was laid off on 4/24/21 and cant even apply for unemployment because they have my account on hold. They keep telling me its due to not being verified by ID.me but I have been verified through them and even have the proof from them. A DES agent told me that the issue is being escalated but a couple of weeks later another DES agent told me that no one has even worked on my case at all.
Good morning, I had to type a letter saying that I was verified and gave them my username and password to log in and check. Then I uploaded the letter to my account documents page. I don’t know if they actually checked by at least it cleared the caution symbol and they are not asking anymore. Now I’m just sitting at pending resolution. Calling doesn’t help. One call said 5 min hold time but turned into 2hr 24 min before being hung up on. No matter what you will have about an 3 he hold time
Would I need to go to a DES office to find out what the active issue is on my claim? There is not explanation on the letter sent to me or on my online account. I have been on hold for hours day after day. I filed 2 weeks ago.
Alexis,
if you’re trying to contact the DES over phone/online without any response, you may have to consider the option of visiting an office in the vicinity.
As someone previously stated I have been calling day after day on hold for hours . I have an active issue and the issue is not stated online nor on the website. How do I get clarification and puke I need to go into a DES office ? Why would I not have an explainable on what the issue is so that I can fix it?
Alexis,
I can understand your situation. Please note this is a private forum and there is little we can do help the Unemployment Office contact you.
I’ve called several times and held over 2 hours, on hold right now over 3 hours? Stay on hold or go down to the unemployment office?
I have been waiting over 10 weeks to get my case resolved . Can’t get a hold of anyone to get me some answers . I have 12 weeks of claims filed
Please let me know if u have had any luck
10 weeks? I’ve been waiting a year. May 2020. It’s now may 9th 2021. Noooo resolution. 26 escalations. 347 calls over 2000 hours on hold. Several agent hang up ups. Numerous promised call backs that never called. Hundreds of lies from des agents in attempt to pacify. Thousands of hours researching unemployment laws. I’m still no closer now then I was last may. I’m a mixed earner made over $40 k for my base period, I’m only getting 86 a week. And I had to fight to get that.
Rob,

I am a military spouse currently stationed in Japan and I’m also a Department of Defense permanent full time employee. We currently have orders to relocate to Pope AAF in Fayetteville, NC. We are due to arrive in North Carolina the beginning of July. My last day of work will be the end of June and I will be in leave without pay (LWOP) status from my job starting the day after my last day of work. My question to you is, when do I initiate the unemployment benefits application? Do I apply before I leave Japan? Or do I apply once we arrive to North Carolina?
Natasha,
Each state has an exclusive framework for military spouses. To understand more about the way it works in your state, please call the Unemployment Office.
