It is considered as the crime to collect the unemployment benefit when you are not eligible to get it. If you are collecting the unemployment benefits without meeting the unemployment compensation benefits requirement then it is considered as fraud and stiff penalties are applicable on it.

It is not illegal to work while you are collecting unemployment benefit. But the thing is it should be determined and waved off under the unemployment counselor.

Unemployment Fraud Penalties in Georgia includes the following concepts:

Fine & Restitution- You may be asked to return the unemployment benefit amount which is known as Restitution and you may be levied of criminal fine in addition.

Penitentiary- You may be sent to jail if you are proved as unemployment fraud.
