I worked as a independent contractor for one institution for 2 years .
My contract was terminated last September 6th.
Can I file for unemployment ?

Independent contractors do not get unemployment as they are considered Self employed so to speak.  But, if you worked and received W2 income within the previous 18 months, prior to your independent contractor job, you may be able to get unemployment.  Depending on how you were terminated.  ie.  If laid off, you should apply and put your W2 employer as your employer.
