I have a regular part-time wage as a teacher, between semesters I current am able to file for unemployment between terms in IL.  My employer is in CA and I work remotely online.  My partner and I am moving to Portland at the start of the new year, by which time I will have certified for benefits in IL, which will only be temporary until Feb. (between semesters, I'm essentially "laid-off").

Can I file still in IL, if I know I'll be moving?  Or do I need to wait and file when I've moved to OR?  Will it even matter since my work/money is actually from CA?

I guess I don't know where to start asking questions about the process, so thought this might help.

Thanks in advance!

Since you are scheduled to move out of IL soon, I recommend that you continue filing from the state( as you are already on the rolls) to receive UI benefits.

If you did not work in Oregon during the last 18 months, you will need to contact the nearest Employment Department (sometimes referred to as Employment Security) office in a state where you worked which will ideally be in IL who will advise you further.

You can contact them on (800) 244-5631. Please provide them adequate details on your situation for them to ascertain and dispense the best advice for future claims.
