I was denied benefits in New Jersey for quitting my job, but I was actually fired for lying on the temporary staffing agency's application concerning my criminal record. But the temp service said I quit, therefore I was denied benefits. I moved to north Carolina and appealed this decision and now I work at home part time through a mail order company. Can I reapply and collect a partial unemployment claim, even though I haven't received a paycheck from this mail order company yet...I do have a signed employment contract from the mail order company.

Allen,

This is a tricky situation. Part time workers can claim UI benefits for the min hours not worked. In your case, dynamics change. I suggest that you apply for unemployment in NC and be transparent in filing. Let them know what happened earlier and that you were being honest now.
