My position has been eliminated. The company is creating a new position identical to mine, with less pay. I have the option to apply for the new position but with an extreme cut in pay. They are also offering a severance. My question: if I choose to apply for this new position and the pay is not enough and I choose not to take it, am I still eligible to get unemployment?

Depends on how the labor dept in your state considers your termination.

Generally, UI benefits are extended to those who are unemployed involuntarily. I suggest that you hang around and look for alternatives before you decide to move out.
