There are some eligibilities to claim the benefit as dependent like:

Eligibility of Dependent

  • Prime requirement is your dependent child should be unmarried
  • He/she should be under 18 years of age
  • Currently being supported by you
  • If the dependent is below 23 then he/she should be full time student

If the above points are applicable then you will surely get the compensation benefit.

As per the Internal Revenue Service, dependent is considered to be is who is dependent on the other taxpayer. It includes anyone related to the taxpayer who has received more than half of his support from the taxpayer throughout the year, even if that person did not reside with the taxpayer during this time but, he/she must have either lived with the taxpayer during the tax year.
