since i am 61 years old it is not likely anyone would hire me so close to retirement do i actually have to look and is looking in newspapers considered looking or do i have to apply?  Also i was let go do i have to say to you why i was let go?

Yes you have to actively look and apply for jobs. Yes you need to tell the unemployment office why you are not working. They will ask the employer too. This site is not affiliated with unemployment.
