South Carolina Unemployment Extension

EUC is a Federal temporary extension of unemployment compensation for unemployed individuals who have already collected all regular state benefits for which they were eligible.

These benefits are available for weeks of unemployment ending on or before January 1, 2014. This means that the last payable week of EUC benefits in most states will be the week ending December 28, 2013.

There is no “phase- out” period for EUC payments. All EUC payments will cease when the program ends.

Total available weeks currently available in South Carolina are 48 weeks (Regular 20 weeks+ EUC 28 weeks – a final week of partial benefits is also available).

Note: Currently South Carolina does not offer extended benefits (EB).

    • Hi, Angie – the federal Extended Benefits Program is not currently triggered in any state. This program is in effect only during times of exceptionally high unemployment.

  1. I was just kicked off of UE last week and it was only 20 weeks. Why does SC not care enough to allow extensions when you can prove how many resumes you submit and are working so hard to get a job? What happens now? I know that in 2016 when I first came down to SC it took me a full seven months to get a job. Why I have no clue. I really could use an extension right now. It is crazy what is happening now. How can I get help?

    • Dear Sally Dart,

Every state is a bit different, and SC has decided 20 weeks is enough. It’s arbitrary but the employers are paying for the UI. As for getting work, unemployment is lower than its been in decades so that’s good news, but it all depends on your field. Have you considered looking into a workforce training program? SC Technical College provides 16 week training programs at low or no cost.

If that isn’t an option, I would work on getting whatever gov’t help you can now, from housing to Food Stamps.

      Best,

      Jean

  2. I did not recieve my unemployment benefits for the week ending 5/30/2020. Your records indicated the you mail me a check for that week however it was never recieved by me. I have requested a replacement payment and called the help center over 30 times with no result. How do i get the payment due to me for that week ? Please provided me a phone number of and individual that can help with this problem /

    • Larry,

Please note this is a private forum and we do not have access to your claim file. Please follow up with the Unemployment Office by phone/online.

  3. My unemployment benefits run out next Monday, because of the virus I can’t look for a job and I want to know can I get an extension?

    • Daryl,

We understand this might be a difficult time for you. We’re anticipating a shortage of staff across unemployment offices due to the massive surge in UI applications considering the pandemic. We advise against calling or visiting the office, as you may not get a response instantly.

Your state may have activated “Extended Benefits (EB)” authorized by the federal government. We recommend you apply for UI benefits online. For more information, please visit your state’s official Unemployment website.

  4. It is sad that there is no longer any extensions available the job and employment rate are still the same for people mid age groups 40’s to 60’s people are not seeking hiring them as quick as the younger ones our bills still plié up and the governor say’s there are jobs show them to us.

    • Currently,EUC(Emergency unemployment compensation) is not available due to expiry. Please contact the labor department in your state to see if there are any other benefits available.

  5. My first extension ended on 12/28/13. I just received an eligibility review from SC but I left that state on May to seek work out of state. Why do I have this eligibility review when I am not receiving money and they never helped me to find a job?
It is hard when you are 60. You are in limbo as nobody hire you. thanks
