Where does an individual file if they live outside Vermont but worked in Vermont?

When work is performed in Vermont, the individual has a right to establish a new claim by calling our Initial Claims line at 1-877-214-3330.

How can claimants determine the status of their payments?

The claimant can check on the payment status of their unemployment payment on-line (www.labor.vermont.gov – Claimant Applications) or by calling the toll free Weekly Continued Claims Line at 1-800-983-2300 and selecting option 2.  If there is an issue on a claim that is delaying payment, the claimant will be notified accordingly.

How does a claimant change their mailing address?

The claimant must complete and return the Claimant Change of Name and Address(page 25) form.  All address changes must be requested in writing.

What is unemployment fraud?

Unemployment fraud is when it is suspected a person has inappropriately received unemployment insurance benefits.  The most common form of unemployment fraud is when a person is working under the table or full time while also receiving unemployment benefits.

Anyone who suspects a person is working and failing to report earnings, while also filing for unemployment compensation, should contact this department’s Program Integrity Unit at (802) 828-4333 or transmit a completed fraud report.

      I suggest you call the Claims Center and speak to a representative for further assistance in this regard.

  2. I operate a home daycare and due to the new laws I can not afford to keep the daycare open. Am I eligible to get unemployment?

      Please call the Unemployment Office in your state to find out since they may have exclusive provisions pertaining to the new law.

    • If the was an initial one, you will receive the payment in about 7-10 business days. To find out status, please call the Claims Center on the phone numbers provided or check online.

  3. I am on ssdi and have been working 20 hrs. a week. Making less than substantial gainful employment allows. I am being laid off due to lack of work. can I collect unemployment. I am in Vermont.

    • Please check further with the Unemployment Office in your state. Some states allow you to collect both simultaneously.

    • You will not be eligible since unemployment insurance is only extended to those who become unemployed due to involuntary reasons.

  4. if you get layed off from a company then find another job but the new job does not work out for certain reasons.can you collect benefits from the first job

  5. If a current employee is working for a company located in Vermont, but lives and works from home in a different state, are they eligible for unemployment compensation through the Vermont UI ?
