VEC Local Offices:

  1. The Virginia number given, 866-832-2363, does not work. No one answers and the message always states we are too busy to answer your call, please call back when we are not busy and then politely hangs up. I have been trying for 3.5 weeks every day to get in touch with someone at Virginia Unemployment office.

I have called local offices and asked to speak with the site manager, every time, I am told they are busy and they will call me the next day. I have had 17 next days with no calls.

How are we supposed to file, when no one is available?

I lived in VA for 22 years, moved in Jun 2023 to Florida, I do not have enough quarters worked in Florida to file so i need to file in Virginia, per law.

    In desperate need for assistance.

  2. HOLD YOUR GOVENOR ACCOUNTABLE. VIRGINIA HAS NO DESIRE TO HELP YOU. IF YOU ARE A MALE/BLACK OR WHITE FORGET IT. SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO PREVENT YOU FROM RECIVING BENNIFITS.

  3. Long story short, due to an error with my bank account I am owed about $2,700 from weeks in 2021. For some reason the VEC claimant portal says I have received these payments but I have not. I have been trying for months to get this payment sent to my new account. I am now receiving notices saying I was overpaid $939 for the same period in 2021. Can anyone help me? I have been dealing with this for over a year.

  4. I have tried several phone numbers to get an answer to a question prior to applying for unemployment benefits. A couple of weeks back on pay day my employer advised that I would not be paid for the work hours already worked and has asked that I continue to work without pay until more money comes into the business. Can I file for benefits and enter the date starting the pay period in which I did not get paid? Should I continue to work for my current employer under these circumstances not knowing if I will actually get paid at some point?

    • Trena,

You should be able to claim unpaid days. Please consider applying. The questionnaire form should have enough questions to assess the state of your employment/earnings.

  5. i have done the ID me and i with to the norton VA office they said they fax it and would email me and still any got no email or no information back. it been 3 week since i have got a payment the frist we was told i hit wrong botton and to write letter what happen we still have here nothing from it and then ID me andf it been 2 week since it was send in please give me a call

      • How? I’ve called every number provided, on this site and others. There’s no way to speak to a live representative.

        • Terrill,
The following number does work. Sometimes there is a long hold time, but others none at all:
          866-832-2363

        • Terrill,

In that case, you may want to explore the options available on the website (you will have to login).

      • Hi. I filed an appeal in Feb and was contacted saying more info was needed & to contact them. There seems to be no way to find info about HOW to get back to them. The usual #s/ site doesnt offer me a place to sign in or speak with a person… does anyone have any experience with the appeal process? Thank you.

  6. I am a seasonal full time school janitor and I’m scheduled to return to work on August 2. My last day was May 28. Do I still have to look for work even though I have a return to work date?

    • The Unemployment Office might be inundated with pending requests. Please visit the website to find the answers.

  7. Is there any local office in Loudoun county I can go to in-person to get my questions answered? I keep getting notices to fie documents online to ensure proof of my eligibility to have received my previous PUA payments but when I log in and try to do that, I get a message that says I have already submitted documents however I see no documents in the portal. I think I originally logged in to upload them and got timed out so the portal thinks I have completed it but I keep getting emails saying I haven’t. I need to talk to a human! I can’t get through and nobody answers emails.

    • Maria,

Please check for office timings (including the availability)on the official Unemployment Office website.

  8. I misplaced my PIN that is needed to file the continued claim. I have left 2 emails and several voicemails and I am now facing financial hardships because I cannot file my claim. I am going to contact the manager Ms. Dorthea Brown soon to get to the bottom of my issue. All I need is a new PIN mailed out to me. Thank you.
THERE IS NO WAY TO RESET THE PIN ONLINE.

    • Jessica,

I can understand your situation. This is a private forum and we will not be in a position to help you with mailing the PIN.

  9. I need to reset my PIN and cannot get anyone to answer the phone – either the main VEC number or with any local offices.

What do I do? I need to file my weekly unemployment claim.

      • I haven’t received my PIN and I can’t get anyone on the phone that deals with it. They say call that number but you need to PIN after you put in your SSN.

        What do I do?

  10. I have been filing my claims for weeks but not getting paid. Something similar happened months ago and I finally got through to someone who got me paid in one lump sum for backpay. it is happening again now but no one at VEC will answer. I’ve been trying to reach someone for weeks. who can help?

  11. Is the office in Richmond open to help with claim problems, I’ve been trying since nov 26th for unemployment..thanks Robyn

  12. I have been online all day today and yesterday because i want to file a claim but no luck it kept saying due to maintenance. Can i go to the office tomorrow?

  13. I’ve been trying to contact unemployment for some time now, I haven’t gotten my first payment and they tell me that I have an “outstanding issue on my claim” I’ve still been able to file for my weekly claim and every time it tells me that my claim has been filed and is being processed. I need to understand what to do ? I’ve been trying to get my payments since October in 2020. Also, I just started filing my claims online and it gives me an confirmation number.

  14. Hello,
I was told to upload my w2 document to the VEC site, but the system says: a document is not required for your ssn and that I already have a document uploaded. I never uploaded a document, but would like to in order to start receiving my payments. I’ve been calling the customer service number for a week, but unable to speak to someone. Please help!

  15. I have filed for unemployment and was sent my monetary determination letter. I have waited the 14 days to receive my check as I was told I would receive it in. No check has come as of this date. I was told to call the customer service number which I have repeatedly done for one week even at the hour they open and am repeatedly told all agents are busy assisting other callers. No one calls you back after I have repeatedly asked for someone to call me back. I am filing a complaint with the Labor Board and the Attorney General of Virginia. I have been approved for unemployment, registered for job services and jumped through every hoop they have asked me too. This organization is pathetic as to helping residents of Virginia.

  16. I left a message, but here is my situation: I was receiving weekly unemployment checks and they stopped the 3rd week in Dec. I have not received any payment since the switchover to Gov2Go. I cannot get a response via phone or when I send an email. This is a long time to go without getting a payment. Can you please advise what I need to do? No change to my bank info, have the same account.

  20. Is your office open to accept walk-ins with questions about already-filed applications for unemployment? I filed in November, received a benefits explanation, but still have not received even a monetary determination. Multiple letters to Richmond have gone unanswered.

  21. I filed my unemployment application on February 13, 2021. I have received my PIN and a notification regarding my weekly benefits. I have not received any payments. When I call I get “Do not have any available benefits”, the one time I was able to get through on the phone I was told my file had been closed due to an error stating I was back at work. I was told to go into existing claims and have the file re-opened. I cannot find ANYTHING that states re-open. Everything states do I was to un-enroll. I need help! Can some one please walk me through this.

  22. Hello , I was getting PUA last year when I first applied for benefits because I was denied the regular unemployment. It ended on 12/26/2020. So, when the extended benefits came this year I completed all the weeks so I can get paid. NO PAYMENT. I then called many times until I finally got someone and they told me to reapply. WOW. So, I reapplied and didn’t get denied this time for regular unemployment but I was filing my weeks under PUA because that’s what I was getting first. Now since, I’m approved for regular UI, and its saying that I don’t have any weeks to claim, What do I have to do to claims those weeks and get paid. I’ve been trying to reach someone for the last few weeks and unsuccessful. Thanks

  23. I need my 1099-g form. The number on the vec website does not allow me to talk to a person, no matter what option I choose. I logged into getvgov2go and there’s no mention of the 1099g form or any benefits I have ever received. PLEASE HELP.

  24. I have been receiving PUA since July, I recently tried to reapply because I thought I had to in order to get the extra $300. Please help me if you can?!!!!

    • Sarah,

Please try detailing your problem here or try finding answers online since there might be limited phone support due to the shortage of staffing. You can use the “Resources” or “FAQs” section of the website.

      • I have the same issue and it won’t tell me anything logging in and it’s impossible to get in touch with anyone to resolve the issue. I’ve called the number at least 30 times the last three days

  27. Is 540-722-3489 affiliated with Virginia unemployment? I got a strange email telling to contact them about my phone number not working? I called directly to unemployment and they had no person by the email signature provided and they did have my correct number as it has not changed in 7 years

    • Yolanda,

If you suspect something amiss, please report it to the Unemployment Office. It may be a case of “Phishing”. Please do not click on any of the links.

PS: I am not sure who the phone number belongs to.

  28. When filling a weekly claim, can you use online job application for your 2 weekly contact as well the in person job search?

    • Peggy,

Please note this is a private forum. Please call the Claims Center to inquire about your claim registration and next steps.

    • Any of those states should be able to tell you which state the wages were reported to. You file in the state that has recorded wages. I would start with the state in which you live.
