Michigan Unemployment Office Locations
Sometimes, it’s nice to go to a nearby UIA office or MichiganWorks! Location to speak to someone in person about your Michigan unemployment benefits. There are a number of brick and mortar unemployment offices where you can get help finding work, and get help with your UI application or bi-weekly certification.
Your local unemployment insurance office can provide in-person help to file a claim. You must make an appointment before visiting between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. To be more precise, 20-minute appointments are scheduled Monday through Thursday between 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, and on Friday from the same opening time to 3:45 PM.
Telephones and computers are available for those without phone or internet access to file their initial application, access the Michigan unemployment calculator, submit their biweekly claim, and perform the required work search activities. There are a dozen unemployment offices around the state.
If you are visiting the unemployment office in person, be sure to have or know your Social Security Number (SSN), PIN for MARVIN, and Driver’s License (DL) or State ID number. If you’re not a U.S. Citizen, you will also need your Alien Registration Number and the expiration date of your work authorization. If you are representing someone collecting UI benefits, you must show proof of legal guardianship or Power of Attorney (POA).
Visit a UIA Office for help with your Michigan unemployment claim. By appointment only.

Some issues cannot be resolved with an in-person meeting alone, and will need additional verification or research from the unemployment office. These issues include pending payments, non-monetary related determinations of eligibility, additional claims, or overpayments. Also, note that the unemployment office does not manage the unemployment debit card – that is managed by U.S. Bank, and you will need to call the back of this ReliaCard.
MichiganWorks! Locations
For help with your job search and job search activities, you can also visit a Michigan Works Career Center. Meeting with MichiganWorks! staff in person or virtually is a requirement for collecting unemployment compensation. The staff will verify the job profile you create on the Pure Michigan Talent Connect website, which is another eligibility requirement.
MichiganWorks! staff members can help you search for jobs, build a resume, prepare for a job interview, and explore options for job training, continuing education, and vocational rehabilitation services. Both the unemployment office and Michigan Works encourage Michigan residents to schedule virtual appointments. Please do not visit an office in person if you are exhibiting cold or flu symptoms. Instead, please call one of the Michigan unemployment phone numbers.
You can get help looking for work and access a variety of job services at a MichiganWorks! location near you.

I have called and called, jumped though all their hoops. It has been close to 10 months, still no benefits. It all started because one person did not do her job correctly. Now my family is paying for it.
When you call or chat with someone, they are like robots, they dont listen and more so than not, they do not look at all the information they tell you what they think is right, then hang up on you. They have the money but will not release it and they surely do not care that a person gets there utility’s shut off, car repossessed, and kicked out of there home the minute covid lifted.
Its the same answer every time. KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR ACCOUNT. There is no time frame of when they will release the funds.
I have even tried to contact the Governor’s office, No help there either. I was hung up on after holding for 90 plus minutes
I am glad to know I am not the only one going through this terrible experience!! I have had the exact experience. Very upsetting!
I’ve called every day and got thru to someone, I’ve been 9 weeks and still waiting
I have been waiting since April . Still in Adjudication process. :( I have recieved not a anything. I’m back to work , yet I need to get caught up. This is just so sad to see everyone go through this
Carlte,
I can understand your situation. There will be a delay considering the number of applications that are being processed. Please continue chasing the office/check your status online at regular intervals until payments normalize.
Jeff – You are not helpful at all. I like so many others deserve a timely resolution. My claim says “in progress” but it isn’t – no one is working on it otherwise I would have received some kind of response from all of the correspondence that I have sent…..I think we should go to Lansing to protest. Nothing is being done as I have already written Governor Whitmer (4 times), Senator Dayna Polehanky and State Rep. Philip Green – Alias no help! – They have all requested feedback about how f__ked up MI UIA is, but when you send it they dismiss you or just flat out don’t help at all…I was told from Green that I wasn’t in the right jurisdiction for him to help! Really?? Are you Fricking kidding me? I’m still a Michigan resident – taxpayer – voter but I’m so sick of being hung up on and the canned rhetoric that I receive when I do call. I’m just making a paper trail and documenting everything. Why aren’t the problem resolution offices ALL OPEN – Isn’t that what they do?? Problem Resolution – Pure Genious.
I work for DHL and we were laid off for two week but I can not get on line for anything in the world
Kenneth,
Please let us know the exact nature of the issue. Are you unable to access the website?
I have been trying for seven months they are asking me to certify every two weeks I have two protests I cannot get a hold of anybody I have sent at least 20 messages to the unemployment website I have spoken to at least 10 people with no answers they’re saying I owe restitution money which I don’t because I was working and I sent them my paystub‘s now they want me to prove I’m working through a job search which they know I am working part time two days a week I don’t know where else to turn. They send me an email telling me I am qualified for benefits but then they don’t give me the benefits. There was fraudulent activity from my previous employer and I have proof I don’t know where else to turn I’ve been kicked out of the chat room several times and all the people do is tell me I have to wait I have to wait I have to wait it’s been seven months!!
It’s been well over a month and I haven’t received any benefits. Going on six weeks now! I am still currently laid off. I even verified my identity by submitting a picture of myself holding my driver’s license and also a picture of my social security card. Nobody can seem to help me in any way! Or is unwilling. I’m so stressed right now. Still says “under review” after 5 weeks! Last year when the entire state shut down I had no issues. This is ridiculous! I am out of money and have a little girl to think about. Please help me!!
Tony, here dealing with the same problem. It’s been weeks since I submitted identity which they already had on file. Still nothing. Try contacting your state representative for help. I contacted them yesterday and I’m hoping to hear something this week.
Tony,
I can understand your situation. There will be a delay considering the number of applications that are being processed. Please continue chasing the office/check your status online at regular intervals until payments normalize.
Jeff,
Quit with the canned responses….No one is working on claims, or redeterminations, they are looking for fraud. YOUR not fooling anyone.
There is No reason for this kind of delay – Open up problem resolution offices so that people get their voices heard.
I am going through the same thing consider going in to a branch office near you .that iswhat i have to do contact the governors office it is a disgrace they would not have a job if it was not for us also contact the news
The (Federal Government )gave the state of Michigan the money for our unemployment!!!!! WE THE PEOPLE HAVE THE RIGHT!!!!!! TO KNOW WHERE IT IS!!! THE I.R.S. is open. Why is the state not?

Hello, Are there any UIA open where we can get help? I have called May times and talked to May agent without my account be fixed. I have been waiting over a month for UIA to fix my account.
Dee,
Please check on this website for answers – https://www.michigan.gov/. I also suggest you log in to find instant answers to your questions (you may even find a fix).
I am at this point certain no agents exist that you can talk to. I am no longer receiving my benefits, despite 14 weeks remaining, no alerts, no ‘submit additional information’ forms, nothing I can do. I’ve sent a dozen messages the last few months with no indication any of them were seen, every time I try to chat all agents are busy, I call the help number and am told there’s a higher number of callers yet you aren’t put in line before being put in a loop where you’re sometimes told to make a phone appointment, and most damning of all there are no phone appointments available for any issue for the next year. It seems obvious at this point that if you have a problem, you’re screwed as there is no one to help.
I received a notice on my PUA claim that I owe a great amount in restitution. There was no explanation as to why. I filed an appeal over 2 weeks ago but have heard nothing back, and the notice says I may be taken to court if the balance is not paid by September 4th (which is coming up fast!!).
I’ve tried emailing, to no avail. The online chat lines say they’re too busy. And calling? HA it doesn’t matter if I call at 8 A.M. or 4 P.M., there are always “higher than average call volumes” so I cannot actually get through to anyone.
I’m at a loss as to what to do! I need to speak with someone about this but my daily attempts go unheard. I just need answers regarding WHY restitution was filed against me (I qualified for PUA during that time, and have been qualifying just fine after as well). I don’t understand, and I really need to speak with someone. Please help.
Hi Rebecca. I just read your email even though it was a year ago for you. I am having the exact same problem.
I was wondering if you ever got an answer. Is it any wonder we are all stressed to the max??? I hope by now you’re ok.
Im having the same problem..any news?

File a unemployment claim and have not received anything. Lost my claim number also. Please help! Carolyn S Saxton
Carolyn,
There will be a delay considering the number of applications that are being processed. Please continue chasing the office/check your status online at regular intervals until payments normalize.
Received a stop payment on my unemployment benefits, however it was made in error.
My account was flagged due to the start of my college semester. It seems that full time enrollment voids eligibility for UI benefits. I am only enrolled part time.
I received a redetermination letter from UIA that explained that my account was flagged, however after review it was determined that my benefits should be unaffected.
Unfortunately my benefit payment was stopped, and I have been unable to reach anyone for help.
I am in dire need of the funds, as school bills are continuing to build on top of regular monthly payments. I am a manager of a restaurant, and as such an unable to return to work. Therefore I am completely devoid of finances and quickly begining to panic.
PLEASE HELP
i filled for unemployment in sept called at least 5times even called and talked to the govoner for help 3 times and still nothing i wrote at least 20 emails nothing my account is in progress and when i do call they say all i can do is wait well i been waiting for 6months now how much longer do i have to wait

I was the Power of Attorney for a friend dying of lung cancer, when he went into the hospital the last time I was advised that since he was not family FMLA would not apply, he was intubated and sedated and I needed to be present to make medical decisions, I forwarded all hospital documentation the POA as well as the form stating he was incapacitated was advised if I resigned my position that I would be able to re-apply and they’d be happy to take me back. I had been working there for almost 5 years and really didn’t want to leave the job but felt the obligation to not let my friend die alone and as his POA had to be there, and the hospital was 5 hours from my place of employment. Reluctantly I resigned and in the email reiterated what they had said that I’d be rehired after he passed or recovered, he passed 3 days later and now they refuse to rehire me, and stated I resigned so they don’t have to pay unemployment. Can they falsely represent they will rehire me just to get me to resign the position so they don’t have to pay unemployment? If I could get an answer it’d be appreciated, I’m thinking of filing and then appealing any denial.
I live in Michigan. I want to press charges on an employer for discrimination. I am a man that tried to apply for a secretary’s job. Never got a app, nothing after 7 tries. What are my rights. Is it against the law. Can they be arrested. I want all that. No one should have to put up with what I went through. NEVER!!!!!! Like I was a piece of crap who cannot do anything, including a secretary. All they would have had to do is give me an app. And turn me down. They could not even do that. Please help me.
Hi my unemployment has stop because of and answer I answered wrong I’d there anyone can help me start back up my unemployment I’m waiting on a jurisdiction for ,5 months now and still nothing
We understand your situation. There will be a delay considering the pendency. Please continue following up regularly.
I need someone to contact me so I change my phone number the verification is through my old number . I’m unable to go online and post job search.
Natalie,
Please call the Claims Center – 1-866-500-0017 for assistance. This is a private forum.
It’s not a private forum. Its the regular unemployment number that everyone has to call but no one can get through !!
NO ONEANSWERS N I NEED A REAL PERSON!
I need to get a verification pin to file, in order to do so I must call the 866-500-0017 phone number, but for the past six (yes, 6) days consecutive, no matter what time of day I call, (I began at 9am on the dot today) I am told that “due to high call volume my call cannot be taken at this time, please refer to the internet to file my claim.” So, I am caught in this catch 22 of not being able to file by internet or phone….
My questions are:
1.) Is anyone actually working to take my call with the government shutdown?
2.) If I go to the problem resolution center, is anyone working with the government shutdown?
3.) Has anyone else had this issue, if so, please advise on how you resolved the problem!
Thank you!!
I can’t get through either. It’s been for the last couple of weeks!
Yes the proble..resolution offices are open and doing buisness as usual
I hear ya John, I’m in EXACTLY, the same boat
I went to the Lansing PRO and the office is closed. The Federal government shut down shouldn’t affect this office, right?
Steven,
We’re not sure. Perhaps, a call the Unemployment Office can help.
I keep calling marvin and they ask me to enter 4 digit security code.. what code are they asking about? Thanks
I have filled out a form two times and when I call to claim benefits it tells me I need to fill out the form and I have over two weeks ago.
Not letting me claim benefits.
Amy,
It looks like the form was not submitted. Please call the Claims Center and speak to a representative for clarification.
Norman,
You would have been asked to set up a PIN at the time of initiating a claim. If you remember, please enter it or look out for an option on the IVR for reset.
The offices listed address is incorrect for Gaylord, Saginaw and Livonia is incorrect-not a problem resolution office
Seasonal employment is generally not eligible due to the obvious nature of work.
Please call the Unemployment Office for further clarification.
I was laid off from a Michigan job. I relocated to Arizona where can I go physically to file my claim?
Please explore the options of filing on the internet or over the phone for easy management of the claim.
You may consider applying from the state where the employment was based.
I drill one weekend a month, how do i put that info into Marvin? I dont know the amount i will get paid, it was just one day instead of two like normal? Wont see til 1st of August
You can call the Claims Center on the phone numbers provided for further instructions with regard to declaring the weekly income.
Unemployment is messed up. Filed a appeal but can’t talk to real person When I call the lines are to busy and call back I have tried several times How can I get help? I still have claims from December
I can understand the frustration.
Please see if you can visit the nearest office in your area.
I have a ten day hold on my unemployment payment….I simply want to know why…I dont have four hours to stand in line at the nearest office so I tried the 18665000017 automated number. It tells me all representatives are busy and to call back later….I have been doing this for two damn days….no option to wait on hold, no callback option. Pathetic customer service if you ask me. I have a family with seven kids and really need this little check from unemployment. I worked for over 24 years without ever using it but now when I actually need it there is a hold. I need to know why…
John,
We can understand your frustration. Since this is a private forum, we do not have access to your claim.
Please try the phone numbers during off peak hours. You can also get the details online, over the department’s website.
It doesn’t matter when you try to call, you won’t get through. If you do get through, they won’t help you ! I’ve been trying to get my unemployment for over a year now. First I was told that I need proof of identity, so I did that. I was told they never received it, after the 4th time they finally have my proof of identity, That was 4 months ago, still haven’t received a dime. Everytime I talk to someone, there’s a different reason why they haven’t released my money. I even called senator Bizon’s office, That was a month ago. Now their saying I need to give them my check stubs for the last year. I sent them all my check stubs 3 weeks ago. I just got a call back from unemployment and they said we never received copies ofy check stubs, so now I have to recopy a year’s worth of check stubs. They are just hoping people will give upso they don’t have to pay us. I’m owed over $20,000.00 now. Unemployment doesn’t care about the people losing their homes or feeding our children. They just don’t care
I would like to put a positive role as far as, A REPRESENTATIVE, BY THE NAME OF KIM, called me back from the 1-866-500-0017 number today and went over the information that I did not give them. Its was a pleasure speaking to her. Thank you KIM for all of your help. Have a good day.
Please note that we are not a govt. organisation.
You can perhaps call the customer service of the labor dept in your state and ask for a supervisor and pass the feedback.

Really someone call me back. WHAT EVER HAPPEN TO THE GOOD OLD DAYS, WHEN YOU CAN TALK TO A MGR OR A HUMAN BEING TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE.
Please note, we are not a govt. or have access to your claim information.
You must contact the customer service of the labor dept in your state immediately.
I have called for over a year and have never got anyone on the phone
Please let us know your query.
The 1-866-500-0017 is an automated system that does not allow for contact with a human being.
There must be an option available to speak to a rep. Please use the link below and try a different number.

Check the Michigan unemployment website for alternate contact information. If they allow a fax – you could send your request that way be sure to include name, phone, & social security # on every page.
Check any material you received in the mail – your code may have been printed on correspondance concerning your claim.
While on the internet, check the Michigan Department of Public Welfare – apply for any benefits you’ll only get them if you qualify but it may help. Is there a government job center in Michigan? Perhaps this information was also on material sent to you when you opened your unemployment claim. These centers are great resources for so many things you may need – use of computers, office equipment, phones, public assistance contact information etc. Churches help people, there may be a food bank in your area…
That way anyone near the fax machine can get all your personal information, great idea……
Hello,
To whom this may concern I’ve been waiting on my unemployment I haven’t received anything yet? The representative told me it would take at least 6 weeks its been about 7 or eight weeks now. Can someone please contact me and let me know what’s going on with my unemployment. Robricka Y. Cole D. O. B 10/10/1985
Thank you for the note Addam. Much appreciated!
We’ve corrected the details.
